Project Overview
Alliance for children and Youth Uganda (A4Y-U) in partnership with Western Uganda Humanitarian Platform WUHP implemented a Local Emergency Humanitarian Response project in Kasese district entitled ‘Hope after Disaster Project -HAD-P’ in 2023. This was a response project towards supporting the Flood victims in the Muhokya Internally Displaced Camp in Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District.
This was a one month project aimed at reducing human suffering among the internally displaced people in the Muhokya Internally Displaced (IDP) camp and to provide Psychosocial counselling to the men, women and children living in the camp.
Among the many activities conducted were the purchase and distribution of relief items which included Soap, salt, posho, jerricans, Tapeline, Sauce pans, cassava flour, Mukene, aqua tablets for water purification. We also supported school going children with scholastic materials like exercise books, pens and mathematical sets.
A4CY – U supported 2 VSLA groups of women living in the IDP camp with seed capital to help them improve their personal and household incomes, thereby getting capacity/hope to think of life after the camp.
In 2025, floods and landslides again struck in different sub counties of Kasese District, we received additional support from WUHP AND Oxfam for three months. The Kasese District Disaster management Committee recommended that A4CY-U implements and support the people living in the temporary IDP camp in Ibanda Kyanya Town Council at Nyambuku SDA primary school. We gave out support to 380 households, receiving food and non-food relief items like Maize flour, beans, cooking oil, basins, jerricans, and tapelines for temporary shelter, sauce pans and scholastic materials for school going children.
To solve the longstanding and reoccurring climate challenges and disasters in Kasese district, there’s need for supporting and implementing the Kasese district disaster management plan, such that we reduce the effects of the disaster when next it strikes. Our appeal to development partners and prospective donors is to deliberate about funding climate solutions for Kasese district.
