THE EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROJECT
Alliance for children and Youth Uganda (A4Y-U) in partnership with World Voices Uganda/ ERF Consortium implemented a Local Emergency Humanitarian Response project in Kasese district entitled ‘Hope after Disaster Project -HAD-P’. This is a response project towards the Flood victims in the Muhokya Internally Displaced Camp in Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District.
The primary aim of this one month’s project was a to reduce human suffering among the internally displaced people in the Muhokya Internally Displaced camp and to provide Psychosocial counselling to the men, women and children living in the Muhokya Internally Displaced camp.
Among the many activities conducted with and among the people living in this camp, the following were conducted and caused impact in the lives of the beneficiaries;
Inception meeting among district and town council leaders and stakeholders to introduce the project and seek their technical support. This was followed up with meetings with the camp leaders and intended beneficiaries.
Notably, A4CY-U purchased and distribution of relief items including (Soap, salt, posho, jerricans, Tapeline, Sauce pans, cassava flour, Mukene, aqua tablets for water purification) and purchase and distribution of scholastic materials for school going children in the camp (books, pens, mathematical sets).
We have been able to support 2 VSLA groups of members living in the IDP camp with small seed capital to help them improve their household incomes, thereby getting capacity/hope to think of life after the camp.
We are hopeful for additional support to enable us cause lasting change and impact in the lives of these beneficiaries’, we realized that they were facing multiple vulnerabilities ranging from poverty, hunger, poor shelter, GBV and spouse neglect among others.
