In Uganda and particularly in Kasese district, most families especially in rural hard to reach areas can’t often afford to pay school fees because of poverty. Education is not free from the beginning levels and many cannot afford it, yet it is the surest medium of girls and women empowerment.
Most at times, the parents don’t believe in educating a girl, because of gender inequalities.
A girl who dropped out of school will eventually end up becoming a victim of teenage pregnancies or child marriages because she has to find a way to survive. Our Back-to-School Program is in place to give girls a second chance to achieve their dream and to grow while obtaining an education.
HOW IT WORKS
Bearing in mind that there are many girls needing help as a result of helplessness and vulnerability, we work with different community structures and stakeholders to identify beneficiary girls, A4CY-U subjects the identified girls to an assessment form to select the rightful beneficiaries.
We also support and enroll girls who walk in seeking support, however we also subject them to an assessment to ascertain their vulnerable levels and willingness to complete the education.
When all processes are duly done, the beneficiary girls are enrolled into school and provided with school materials, continued guidance and mentorship and given life skills training.
The beneficiary girls continue with their education and has a chance to realize her dreams and full potential
