Uganda Women’s Network in partnership with Alliance for Children and Youth – Uganda with funding from UN WOMEN is implementing a project titled “Galvanizing the Strength of the Women’s Movement, A Voice and Accountability’’.
The goal of the project is to build a vibrant, strong and inclusive women’s movement engaging and participating in influencing policies, legislations and practices at subnational, national and international level for gender equality, elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG), end harmful practices like teenage pregnancies and early marriages and promotion of sexual reproductive health rights (SRHR).
Among the many engagements under this project is Press Conferences on prevention of VAWG, radio talk shows to highlight the main causes of VAWG especially during the COVID 19 lockdown period, stressing the need for community members to utilize the available local structures in the community to report, refer and handle the rising rights violations. We have had dialogue meetings in the community aimed at mobilizing parents and leaders to identify, respond and refer VAWG violations to relevant authorities.
Our partnership with UWONET has improved our capacity as an organization to position ourselves better in response to the overwhelming rights violations in the district, build partnerships with different stakeholders to respond timely and offer better services to our beneficiaries.
